RCA SECRET 2010

Each year the Royal College of Art raises fund through a Secret Postcard Sale. The postcards are made by designers,
artists and current RCA students and are sold off anonymously in a silent auction. You only know what you’ve bought if
you place the winning bid. Last year over 1000 artists contributed to the effort. The exhibition will open on Friday 12th
November but if you want to register in advance and find out more follow this link:

VIRTUAL RESTORATION

Michaela Janke, a student at the Institute of Conservation Sciences at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences has hit
upon an ingenious way of restoring the fragile murals at the Brömserhof Museum in Rüdesheim am Rhein. The walls
were originally painted by a student of Cranach the Elder but have been left in a state of disrepair for years. Janke used a
watercolour copy of the missing fragment and worked with software company Coolux GmbH to create and project the
original pattern onto the ceiling. Is this a groundbreaking move for conservators? It’s completely non-invasive and as
Janke adds “It helps the spectator to distinguish between the original and the newly restored areas”.
