Charlotte's Weekly Round-Up

CONTEMPORARY CIRCLE ONLINE

With many thanks to Contemporary Circle Board Members Helen and Colin David – the RACC now has its own online presence in the form of a Contemporary Circle Blog. It is still in its infancy and at the moment contains the contents of my weekly updates to you but will soon be expanding to include dates and times of events as well as updates and photographs from you – our patrons. WAPPING PROJECT OPENING RECEPTION AND DINNER

Many of you will remember the Wapping Project – the phenomenal space we visited on our East End Gallery tour a couple of months ago. United Visual Artists have invited Contemporary Circle members to the opening of their installation “Chorus” on the 15th June. There is a supper afterwards which will be £25 a head. Susie will be attending – if you wish to join please RSVP to Keri Elmsly: keri@uva.co.uk .

CAFÉ OTO AND THE LONDON IMPROVISERS ORCHESTRA

If you fancy hearing a full orchestra making it up as they go along then head to Café Oto in Dalston on Sunday 6th June. Café Oto is at the centre of a hub of the East End arts community and hosts a variety of performance and arts programming throughout the year with an emphasis on works and pieces that are too obscure or unconventional for traditional arts venues. The London Improvisers Orchestra never play the same piece twice, the orchestra never consists of the same musicians but it’s always entertaining and often amazing.

EXHIBITION OF THE WEEK

Peter Doig at Tate Britain

Not so much an exhibition as a special commission but Tate Britain will be displaying Doig’s colossal canvas “Ascension” until June 6th. The piece is 11 metres high and was originally commissioned by Westminster Cathedral and unveiled last October during as the backdrop to a recital by pianist Stephen Hough.
