Dear Contemporary Circle,
As the focus of the contemporary art market shifts from Armory in New York to the Sharjah Biennale and Art Dubai in the Middle East our RAs have been very busy.
NORMAN FOSTER RA
Sir Norman Foster RA has built his first hospital just outside of Bath . The architecture and interior design of the building recall the ideas behind Le Corbusier’s final unrealised project – a hospital in Venice where the interiors were intended to promote well-being and feed the soul as well as the body.
MICHAEL LANDY RA
Fresh from his Art Bin at the South London Gallery, Michael Landy RA is now embarking upon his next project. He will be artist in residence at The National Gallery. He is the eighth artist to have taken up the role and will have an exhibition of his portraits at the gallery in the autumn. We’ll be sure to keep you apprised of his progress and organise an event around it.

MARKET
The controversy surrounding the possible sale of the Polaroid photography collection rumbles on. Sotheby’s New York claim they are legally allowed to proceed with the sale of the bankrupt film firm’s collection which includes works by Chuck Close, Andy Warhol and Nan Goldin. But an attempt to halt the sale is being led by a former US magistrate. Read more about it here:
EXHIBITION OF THE WEEK
David Korty at Sadie Coles HQ
This exhibition of new works opens tonight (private view 6-8pm). LA based artist Korty is often seen as a devotee of Alex Katz with his flattened perspectives and Pop-Art colours. Attached are examples of his recent work.
